About Us

Changing Lives, Empowering Individuals, & Growing Communities

A Kid’s Choice Educational Services Foundation is a literacy organization that provides assessment and instruction for all ages in the area of specific learning disabilities related to reading and language.  We work directly with public and private schools to integrate evidence-based reading approaches.

Through workshops, coaching, and consultations with principals, teachers, and support staff, our plan is to design programs that fit the needs of specific school communities. This professional development aligns with findings of the National Reading Panel and current research in literacy instruction.  By using a multi-sensory type of instruction, students with dyslexia and other related learning difficulties are empowered.  They learn to read, write, and spell with competence.

As one of a very few local resources for dyslexia and related learning disabilities, A Kid’s Choice Educational Services also tutors children one on one or in small groups. Additionally, home school services are provided at our downtown location.  Any subjects can be taught to these students, however parents determine which subjects are to be taught by AKCES and which to be taught at home.  Additionally, we assist these families with the support needed to navigate through the appropriate curriculum for their student to use at home.  Each week we briefly consult with our parents to answer their questions pertaining to content and/or strategies.  Additionally, a certified speech therapist provides services at our office weekly.  These services are provided for families at a reduced rate.

We actively educate the public on current research, advancement, and legislation that relates to language based learning disorders.  Family advocacy and support for students in school settings are provided at no charge to the family.  Promoting reading awareness in our community is a priority.  Activities are conducted various times through out the year.

Quarterly meeting with individuals and groups from the medical community provide us with current medical information impacting students with language-based learning disabilities.  We discuss the problems facing educators, students, and parents.  We believe this partnership is a vital part of our services.

A Kid’s Choice Educational Services has provided Vocational Literacy classes at a local community college.  Also, we work with several local private schools providing instruction to students individually and in small groups.

Professional Development is another key role that AKCES plays in our community.  By presenting current research-based strategies to educators, all students including those with language-based learning difficulties can benefit.

AKCES works hand in hand with school administrators to review and analyze test scores and develop goals for the future.
